Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data Amharicly collects, why, and who processes it. It describes the service as it works today; it will be updated before new kinds of processing (such as learning progress, subscriptions, advertising or analytics) are introduced.

1. What we collect

  • Account email address — used to create your account, verify it, sign you in and send password-reset instructions.
  • Sign-up context — the page on this site you came from when creating your account (for example the alphabet chart), stored with your account so we can tell which parts of the site actually help people start learning.
  • Password — stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider. We never see or store your plain password.
  • Authentication and session information — sign-in state is kept in cookies so you stay signed in; our providers keep basic security logs (such as sign-in attempts and timestamps) to protect accounts.
  • Learner profile — what you tell us during setup and can change in your profile settings: the name you want us to use, why you are learning Amharic, your self-reported starting familiarity, your chosen daily learning goal (in minutes) and whether setup is complete.
  • Practice review schedule — when you rate a flashcard in Practice we store, for your account, which card it was, your latest rating and when it should next appear, so your reviews can be scheduled. This is only flashcard scheduling — it is not course progress, scores or a study history.
  • Learning progress — which lessons you have started and completed (with the lesson version you completed), the XP you have earned, your learning streak and a per-day count of completed lessons. This is private to your account — there are no public profiles or leaderboards.
  • Timezone — your device's timezone name (for example "Africa/Addis_Ababa"), captured when you complete a lesson so streaks follow your local calendar day. No precise location is collected.
  • Plan interest — if you arrive from the Premium pricing button we note that interest with your account. It does not change what you can access and no payment details are collected.

Beyond the flashcard schedule above, we do not yet store course progress, lesson scores, streaks or points. This policy will be updated when those features launch.

2. How we use it

To provide and secure your account, to send account emails (verification and password reset), to keep the service working and to comply with legal obligations. We do not sell personal data and we do not send marketing email.

3. Who processes it

  • Supabase — authentication and database hosting (accounts, hashed passwords, sessions).
  • Vercel — hosting of the website; receives standard request data such as IP address and browser type to serve pages.
  • Resend — delivery of account emails (verification and password reset).

We measure site usage with Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights: cookie-less, aggregate metrics (pages viewed, country-level region, performance timings) served from this site’s own domain. They are not used to identify you and involve no advertising or cross-site tracking. We do not use payment providers, advertising networks or AI services with your personal data.

4. Cookies

We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to protect your session. We do not use advertising cookies, and our analytics works without cookies.

5. Retention

Account data is kept while your account exists. Security logs are kept for a limited time by our providers. When account closure becomes available in the app, closing your account will delete your account data, subject to any legal retention requirements.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, or to object to certain processing. A dedicated contact channel for privacy requests and self-service account deletion will be published here as those features launch.

7. Changes

We will update this page and its “last updated” date whenever our processing changes. See also our Terms of Service.
